META INTRODUCES WHATSAPP MONITIZATION TOOLS IN GLOBAL ROLLOUT

META INTRODUCES NEW WHATSAPP MONITIZATION TOOLS IN GLOBAL ROLLOUT

Meta has unveiled a series of new features for WhatsApp that are set to reshape how creators, organizations, and businesses engage with audiences and earn revenue through the platform. These updates will be gradually rolled out worldwide in the coming months.

The changes center around WhatsApp’s Updates tab — the section where users currently find Status and Channels. Meta announced on Monday that the tab will now support three key features: "Channel Subscriptions", "Promoted Channels", and "Ads in Status".

According to Meta, these additions mark a significant step forward in WhatsApp’s monetization strategy, offering fresh opportunities for creators and businesses without disrupting the private nature of personal messaging.

“We’ve spent years exploring how to enable business growth on WhatsApp in a way that doesn’t interfere with personal conversations. We believe the Updates tab is the ideal space to do just that,” Meta shared.

A Platform With 1.5 Billion Daily Users
Meta highlighted that over
*1.5 billion users* actively engage with the Updates tab every day — whether to view Status updates from friends or to follow public figures and creators via Channels. This impressive reach has positioned the platform as a powerful tool for business growth.

A Closer Look at the New Features:

*Channel Subscriptions*: WhatsApp users will soon be able to subscribe to their favorite Channels — including news publishers, influencers, and sports teams — to receive premium, exclusive content for a monthly fee.

*Promoted Channels*: With this tool, WhatsApp will begin recommending Channels tailored to users' interests, helping creators and businesses increase visibility. This is the first paid promotion feature on the app specifically designed to help Channels grow.

*Ads in Status*: Businesses will now be able to place ads within the Status section, similar to how ads appear in Instagram Stories. These targeted ads allow users to discover products or services and initiate direct chats with advertisers.

Meta reassured users that these new monetization tools were developed with privacy as a top priority. For those who’ve linked their WhatsApp to Meta’s *Accounts Center*, the company may also use information from other Meta platforms to tailor ad experiences.

What’s Next?

Meta confirmed that these features will be introduced in stages, with some already available for exploration via the official WhatsApp Business channels. Channel administrators and business owners interested in early access or more information can find resources on the WhatsApp Business website.
